North West England launches AI bootcamp to combat youth unemployment

A new pilot initiative called the TechFirst AI Apprenticeship Pathway has launched in North West England to combat youth unemployment. The program provides up to 70 young people, aged 16 to 21, with three weeks of intensive training in artificial intelligence and essential workplace skills.

Delivered by the IN4 Group, the bootcamp teaches participants how to build AI tools, understand business applications, and use technology responsibly with human oversight. Training includes practical skills such as professional communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.

The initiative involves partnerships between the government and various businesses and public sector organizations, including JD Sports and Heinz. Upon completion of the training, participants will have the opportunity to transition into apprenticeships with the participating companies. The program arrives as the UK faces a challenging labor market for young people, with youth unemployment rates reaching a decade-high.
