North West healthcare expands home-based clinical services

Healthcare services in North West England are expanding home-based clinical support through both public and private initiatives. In Cheshire and Merseyside, virtual ward services have benefited more than 5,000 patients over the past year. These wards utilize technology, including wearables and medical apps, to provide hospital-level supervision in a domestic setting, resulting in a 51 per cent increase in patient treatment via this model during 2025-26.

In a parallel development, the Manchester-based Compassionate Care Group has announced a £500,000 investment to launch a specialist complex care division. This nurse-led service is designed to support individuals with conditions such as epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and brain or spinal injuries. The division aims to provide specialized clinical expertise, including management of ventilators and tracheostomies, to help patients transition from hospital settings to their own homes while reducing pressure on the NHS.
