Nigeria to lead UNGA 81 delegation under Vice President Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima is leading the Nigerian delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. Representing President Bola Tinubu, Shettima is scheduled to deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the General Debate on Thursday afternoon.

Nigeria’s primary diplomatic objectives at the assembly include renewing its campaign for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council and advocating for broader institutional reforms to make multilateralism more responsive to developing nations. The delegation aims to address issues such as global financial architecture reform, peace and security, climate action, and sustainable development.

In addition to national interests, several Nigerian state governors are participating in high-level side events. Governors from Nasarawa and Kebbi states are seeking international investment for solid mineral resources, while the North West Governors’ Forum is presenting a regional peace, security, and development framework to global partners.
