North Westside Fire Rescue reports no structural losses from wildfires

The North Westside Fire Rescue Department (NWFR) has reported that no structures were lost within its 900-square-kilometre response area following recent wildfires. The department responded to three fires that ignited along Westside Road on August 1.

The most significant blaze, the Quilpituk Creek wildfire, grew to over 1,200 hectares and necessitated numerous evacuations. While the fire is now under control and no homes or buildings in the NWFR jurisdiction were destroyed, the department noted that neighboring areas and the Okanagan Indian Band experienced significant losses on the north end of Westside Road.

NWFR personnel have been working alongside B.C. Wildfire and other agencies to contain the fires, patrol for hotspots, and implement FireSmart measures to protect properties.
