Northampton business fined £40,000 for unlawful waste disposal

JLN1 Ltd, which operates as Zizou Lounge and Zizou Express in Northampton, has been fined more than £40,000 for the unlawful and persistent disposal of commercial and food-related waste. The company pleaded guilty at Wellingborough Magistrates Court to three offences under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

The offences occurred on three separate occasions between December 22, 2025, and January 23, 2026, involving waste deposited on land at Whitworth Road. In addition to the £40,200 fine, the company was ordered to pay £1,567 in costs. The court noted the commercial advantage the business gained by avoiding lawful waste disposal and the burden placed on local residents and landowners for clean-up efforts.
