Northeast Brazil health insurance market shows growth

Data from the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) shows significant growth in the health insurance market across Brazil's Northeast region during the first half of 2026.

Bahia remains the regional leader in the number of beneficiaries. It is the only state in the Northeast to exceed 2 million beneficiaries in the dental insurance segment. Ceará follows as the second-largest market in the region, reaching 2.95 million active health plan links in February 2026, a 2.66% increase from the previous year.

In Ceará, medical assistance plans reached 1,490,812 links, while dental-only plans accounted for 1,460,760. The growth in the dental segment is particularly notable, rising 3.67% over 12 months. As corporate plans represent a major portion of the national market, companies are increasingly focusing on the management of these benefits to balance rising costs with employee retention and preventive care.
