Northeast Frontier Railway recreates historic Sukna station
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has recreated the 146-year-old Sukna railway station to preserve and promote the heritage of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) Toy Train. The initiative comes as the railway experiences record-breaking passenger footfall.
To enhance the tourist experience, NFR inaugurated a photo gallery featuring historic images of the DHR. Each photograph is equipped with a QR code that allows visitors to access detailed historical information. The station's reopening was marked by cultural festivities, including traditional Nepali folk dances and musical performances.
NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Srivastava stated that the railway is taking measures to increase the attraction of the heritage mountain rail due to rising global interest. In anticipation of the Durga Puja festival, authorities plan to operate additional train services to accommodate the expected surge in travelers.
