U.S. Northeast coast braces for powerful Nor’easter storm

A powerful Nor’easter is impacting the U.S. Northeast coast, threatening more than 40 million people with heavy rain, high winds, and significant coastal flooding. The storm is expected to bring wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h in parts of New England, with the most severe impacts anticipated in coastal areas from New Jersey to Massachusetts.

In response to the weather, several major cultural events have been cancelled, including two Ed Sheeran concerts near Boston, the Global Citizen festival in New York City, and the Oceans Calling festival in Maryland. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has warned of potential flight cancellations. Major airlines, including JetBlue, United Airlines, and American Airlines, are allowing travelers to modify their bookings without penalty.

Emergency measures are underway in several states. Governors in New York and New Jersey have declared states of emergency, and a voluntary evacuation has been issued for low-lying areas in Manasquan, New Jersey. Forecasters warn that flooding in some coastal communities could reach levels comparable to the 2011 Irene storm.
