Northern Argentine governors demand differentiated electricity tariffs

Governors from the Norte Grande region are demanding the officialization of differentiated electricity tariffs. This follows a political agreement where the national government secured votes from legislators in the NEA and NOA regions to reduce gas subsidies for “cold zones” in exchange for implementing “warm zone” criteria for electricity rates during the summer season.

Rather than through legislation, the change is expected to be implemented via a resolution from the Secretaría de Energía. While the national government has not yet announced a specific date for the regulation, several governors have expressed confidence in the measure. Corrientes Governor Juan Pablo Valdés estimated that approximately 185,000 families would benefit from the new rates.

Other regional leaders involved in the discussions include Chaco Governor Leandro Zdero and Misiones Governor Hugo Passalacqua.
