Northern Banat rapeseed crops struggle due to extreme drought

In the northern Banat region of Serbia, specifically around Kikinda, extreme drought conditions have severely impacted rapeseed cultivation. While some farmers proceeded with sowing in mid-September, the lack of precipitation has prevented crops from germinating.

Meteorological data shows very low rainfall totals for July, August, and September in areas such as Banatsko Veliko Selo, Kikinda, and Novi Kneževac. Although minimal rain has caused some seeds to swell, it is insufficient to sustain plant development. Farmers face significant risks for rapeseed and winter crops like wheat and barley as they enter October.
