Northern Borders region prepares for annual falconry season

The Northern Borders region of Saudi Arabia is preparing for the annual hunting and falconry season starting in October. The Al-Hammad Desert serves as a primary transit point for migratory falcons, particularly the Peregrine falcon, attracting hunters and falconry enthusiasts from across the Kingdom and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

As the season approaches, there is a notable increase in commercial activity in Arar, with rising demand for camping equipment, tents, and falconry supplies. This seasonal influx also stimulates service sectors, including fuel stations, restaurants, hotels, and food supplies, to accommodate visitors traveling to the desert areas.

Beyond its cultural significance as a generational heritage, the season holds economic value through the auction of rare and high-quality falcons. The tradition continues to serve as a social gathering for practitioners to exchange expertise regarding falconry and desert life.
