Northern British Columbia internet outage affects multiple communities
Northwestern British Columbia is experiencing its third major internet outage of the year. CityWest reported an outage west of Prince George, noting difficulties routing traffic through backup connections between Prince George and Vancouver.
KPU Communications reported that a CityWest fibre optic line was damaged near Clinton in the Cariboo region. Additionally, KPU reported that thieves damaged two alternate fibre optic lines in Alberta. Rogers also reported outages affecting customers in several areas, including Prince George, Quesnel, Williams Lake, and Fort St John, due to a cut in a third-party fibre optic line.
Northern Health stated that while all hospitals remain open, connectivity issues are causing temporary slowdowns or outages at some facilities. The health authority noted that major facilities utilize Starlink satellite services as a backup. This follows previous outages in May and early August caused by cable thefts.
