Northern Canadian community highlights in sports and television

The Yellowknife Merchants recently competed in the 2026 Canadian Men’s Fastpitch Championship in Saskatoon. This marked the first time a team from the Northwest Territories participated in the national tournament since 1985. During the round-robin, the Merchants played six games, including a close match against the defending champions, the Galway Hitmen, and an extra-inning loss to the Toronto Jr. Batmen.

In Iqaluit, fans and extras gathered to watch the season two premiere of the show ‘North of North’. The screening featured the first two episodes, highlighting local filming locations and cultural elements. Participants noted the pride in seeing local landscapes and clothing represented on screen.
