Northern Cyprus economic groups seek clarity on pensioner bonuses

Economic organizations in Northern Cyprus, including the Cyprus Turkish Employers Association and the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce, have called for transparency regarding a planned bonus for pensioners. The Prime Minister announced that approximately 48,000 social insurance pensioners will receive a 40,000 TL bonus in November, totaling roughly 2 billion TL to be funded by the Social Insurance Fund.

The organizations expressed concerns regarding the legal and fiscal basis of this extraordinary payment, especially given the current public debt levels and projected budget deficits. They requested clarification on how this will affect the actuarial balance of the Social Insurance Fund. The groups emphasized that their inquiry is not intended to oppose support for retirees, but to ensure the long-term sustainability of the social security system and the protection of rights for all insured individuals.
