Northern Cyprus Minister Erhan Arıklı urges UN to focus on confidence‑building, warns of territorial losses

Transport and Public Works Minister Erhan Arıklı said that the planned protest against UN Secretary‑General Antonio Guterres' visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was cancelled after President Tufan Erhürman and Turkey voiced support for Guterres' efforts. In a video posted to social media, Arıklı urged the UN to come with confidence‑building measures rather than a federation proposal, stating that a federation is not a solution for Cyprus.

He warned that those who "eye Girne" risk losing Larnaca and Limassol, emphasizing the desire for a good neighborly coexistence with the Greek Cypriot community. Arıklı also reiterated that the TRNC seeks to live side‑by‑side with the Greek Cypriots, not in an inter‑woven but parallel manner.
