Northern Cyprus performs first robotic mitral valve surgery

The Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital has performed the first robotic mitral valve surgery in Northern Cyprus. Health Minister Dr. Hakan Dinçyürek announced that the procedure was conducted on a patient in their 50s to treat mitral valve insufficiency.

Dr. Dinçyürek noted that robotic surgery offers significant advantages, including reduced intensive care stay durations, smaller incisions, faster wound healing, and lower risks of complications. Cardiovascular specialist Dr. Ozan Emiroğlu added that the operation, which typically requires opening the breastbone, was completed using only four small incisions.

Medical officials stated that efforts are underway to expand the use of robotic surgery across various medical branches to keep local healthcare technology in line with global standards.
