Turkey and Northern Cyprus report various traffic and security updates
Various regions in Turkey and Northern Cyprus are addressing heightened concerns regarding traffic safety, school security, and road management.
In Turkey, authorities are implementing new security measures for schools, including X-ray devices, controlled entry points, and a parent appointment system to combat rising violence. In Ankara, significant road closures are planned for October 7 due to a Palestine solidarity march organized by ANFİDAP. Meanwhile, in Istanbul, heavy traffic congestion has been reported on major arteries like the D-100 and TEM highway. Other regional updates include roadwork disruptions in Balıkesir and Bursa, and a single accident in Pendik where a truck struck a building.
In Northern Cyprus, police reported 64 traffic accidents between September 28 and October 4, resulting in 2 deaths and 33 injuries. Speeding was identified as the primary cause of accidents. Additionally, discussions regarding the proportionality of traffic fines continue, with calls to ensure penalties are deterrent without causing economic collapse for low-income citizens.
