Northern Cyprus urged to develop software and digital services hub
Experts suggest that Northern Cyprus has the potential to become a significant hub for software and digital services by leveraging its local talent and connecting intelligent youth with investors. Proponents argue that the digital world offers opportunities that bypass traditional physical borders and embargoes.
In comparison, the digital gaming sector in South Cyprus has shown substantial growth. Industry reports project revenues of 3.2 billion euros for 2025. The number of companies in that sector grew from 169 in 2019 to 393 in 2024, while employment rose from 1,438 to 4,320 people. The economic contribution of the sector in 2024 was estimated at 1.15 billion euros.
To compete, it is noted that Northern Cyprus must move beyond political promises and create an environment where skilled developers can live, work, and grow their businesses locally, rather than seeking opportunities abroad.
