Northern Ghana undergoes industrial transformation through infrastructure investment
Northern Ghana is undergoing an industrial transformation, shifting from an economy primarily based on agriculture to a competitive manufacturing hub. This transition is supported by significant infrastructure developments, including the near-completion of the Eastern Corridor highway. This route will link Nakpanduri through Atimpoku directly to the Tema Port, facilitating faster freight transit.
Logistical capabilities are being further bolstered by increased domestic flight connectivity to Tamale, with planned airports in Wa and Bolgatanga. Additionally, a 150-acre air cargo hub is under development at Tamale International Airport to support the export of high-value agricultural and manufactured goods.
The region offers distinct advantages for investors, such as access to large tracts of secure land and improved energy resilience. High solar irradiance in the area allows manufacturers to implement hybrid power systems to supplement the national grid, a strategy already being utilized by early industrial adopters like NorthShore Apparel in Savelugu.
