Northern India Heat Wave Eases as Monsoon Rains Arrive

India's weather bureau warned that a severe heat wave continues to affect Uttar Pradesh, with yellow alerts issued for more than 50 districts. Forecasts predict scattered thunderstorms, gusty winds and light to moderate rain within the next 24 hours, offering temporary relief. Meteorologists expect the southwest monsoon to enter the state later this week, potentially bringing an 8‑9 °C temperature drop, although the onset may be about eight days later than the usual June 20 date.

Similar weather changes are forecast for Haryana and the adjoining Punjab‑Delhi NCR region, where scattered showers and strong winds up to 60 km/h are expected. The department cautioned residents to stay vigilant during the unsettled conditions, noting that the rains should temper the extreme heat across the northern plains.
