Northern Ireland boxers win silver at Commonwealth Games
Boxer Michaela Walsh of Northern Ireland secured a second Commonwealth Games silver after losing a unanimous decision to India's Jaismine Jaismine in the final. The 33‑year‑old, a four‑time medallist, added to NI’s tally following previous silvers in 2014 and 2018.
Team NI also saw Kaci Rock and Jon McConnell advance to their respective finals. Rock, after a 3‑2 semi‑final win over Scotland’s Caitlin Rainey, will contest the women’s welter‑weight gold, while McConnell, who defeated Scotland’s Sonny Kerr, is set for the men’s light‑middle‑weight final. Both boxers are guaranteed at least silver medals.
These results bring Northern Ireland’s boxing medal count to three silvers at the Games, complementing earlier swimming medals and continuing a strong showing for the region’s athletes.
