Northern Ireland police report 5,817 domestic abuse crimes against men

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has released data showing that men accounted for 32% of all domestic abuse victims recorded between April 2025 and March 2026. During this 12-month period, the PSNI recorded 5,817 domestic abuse crimes against male victims, with a sanction outcome rate of approximately 19%.

In response to these figures, the PSNI has partnered with the Men’s Advisory Project to launch the ‘Every Victim Matters’ campaign. The initiative aims to challenge the stigma surrounding male victims and encourage men to report abuse, including physical violence, emotional abuse, coercive control, and controlling behaviors.

Detective Superintendent Kerry Brennan emphasized that the police aim to protect all individuals without prejudice, stating that abuse is not a lesser crime because the victim is male and should not be minimized or joked about.
