Northern Italy provinces demand tougher action on illegal drifting gatherings

Deputy Marco Padovani of the Italian Parliament, representing Verona, presented a parliamentary inquiry to the Interior Minister asking for new measures to prevent and curb illegal drifting and car‑rally gatherings that have been occurring around Verona and the Lake Garda area. He highlighted recent incidents, including an attack on a Carabinieri patrol that left two officers injured, a collision involving a family with two children, and tensions near Monte Baldo, noting that hundreds of participants, some foreign, organize these events via social media.

Provincial authorities from Brescia, Verona and Mantova have jointly called on the national legislature for stricter laws and more effective operational tools to stop unauthorized car meets, especially during evenings and nights. They cite the risk to road safety, noise disturbances, traffic blockages and dangerous driving as reasons for stronger sanctions and better coordination among police, prefectures and local administrations.
