Northern Metropolis University Town land tender to launch in September

The development of the Northern Metropolis University Town in Hong Kong is entering a formal implementation phase. Education Bureau Director Tsui Yeuk-lun announced that the first batch of land in Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen is expected to be released for tendering in September. The initial phase involves approximately 5 hectares of land, with leveling work projected to be completed by the end of the year. The total area for the project has been expanded to 22 hectares for this specific site.

To support the project, the government has reserved a HK$10 billion loan facility for institutional financing. The selection process for participating institutions will involve discussions regarding land use, key industries, and specialized characteristics.

Beyond infrastructure, the Education Bureau is focusing on digital literacy and international engagement. The 'Study in Hong Kong' program saw record participation this year, with over 10,000 applications from more than 30 regions, including Belt and Road countries, Brazil, and the UAE. Additionally, the bureau is implementing mandatory digital education training for teachers to address the rise of artificial intelligence in the classroom.
