Northern Myanmar telecom fraud documentary exposes criminal violence
CCTV has aired a three-part documentary titled ‘Documentary on the Destruction of Northern Myanmar Telecom Fraud’ (缅北电诈覆灭纪实), co-produced with China's Ministry of Public Security. The series details the operations of major criminal syndicates in Northern Myanmar, specifically focusing on the dismantling of the ‘Four Great Families,’ including the Ming family.
The documentary exposes the brutal internal management of these fraud compounds, such as the Wuhu Villa. Reports indicate that criminal groups used armed suppression, physical violence, and executions to maintain control over personnel. One specific incident, known as the ‘October 20’ massacre, involved a violent crackdown by militia forces during an attempted escape, resulting in the deaths of four Chinese nationals.
Footage includes an interview with Ming Zhenzhen, a key figure in the Ming criminal group, prior to her execution. She admitted to attempting to cover up the deaths by burying bodies to prevent the incident from escalating. The series also highlights international cooperation, noting the formation of an international anti-telecom fraud alliance involving 46 countries to combat cross-border crime.
