Northern Neuquén showcases unique biodiversity and cultural landscapes
The northern region of Neuquén, Argentina, offers diverse natural landscapes and cultural traditions. In the Minas Department, the Puya alpestris, a native plant known for its vibrant electric blue inflorescences, grows at altitudes between 1,500 and 1,800 meters. This species is a key part of Patagonian biodiversity but faces vulnerability due to its restricted geographic range and potential human interference.
Beyond its flora, the region is characterized by its mountains, valleys, and Patagonian steppe. Chos Malal serves as a historical gateway, hosting events such as the Fiesta Nacional del Chivito. Other notable locations include Huinganco, known for its spring tulip blooms, and various trekking destinations like Cerro Corona. The area is defined by a mix of traditional lifestyles and varied ecosystems, including the Cordillera del Viento.
