Northern Portugal highlights new river pool and Porto tourism
A new river pool has opened at the Areinho de Oliveira do Douro beach in Vila Nova de Gaia, northern Portugal. Measuring 40 x 50 meters, it is described as the largest river pool of its kind in the country. Designed to be a safe and inclusive space, priority access is given to children, people with disabilities, and those over 65. The facility features warm water and an 80-person capacity, with users limited to 30-minute sessions. To maintain the landscape, the pool is covered with sand during the off-season.
Tourism in the Porto region continues to highlight historical and cultural landmarks. Key attractions include the Ribeira district along the Douro River, the Dom Luís I Bridge, and the São Bento Station, which is notable for its 20,000 hand-painted tiles by Jorge Colaço. Other significant sites include the Clérigos Tower and various medieval castles and vineyards in the surrounding areas.
