Northern sees sharp rise in female job applications
The train operator Northern has reported a significant increase in female job applications following the launch of its ‘We’re Not Northern Without Her’ recruitment campaign. Since the initiative began last November, the proportion of women applying for roles at the company has risen from approximately 17% to 33%.
The campaign, which focuses on challenging perceptions of careers in the rail industry by highlighting the real experiences of female employees, recently won the Best Diversity and Inclusion Strategy award at the Employer Brand Management Awards.
Additionally, Northern’s traincrew training programme was recognized as the Best Apprenticeship Scheme at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development People Management Awards. The programme was noted for its effectiveness in training novices for driver and conductor roles.
