Northern Spain beach trips and free cherry festival attract weekend visitors

With summer heat rising, residents of Pamplona are taking day trips to nearby coastal towns. Bus services from the city cost €11 to San Sebastián’s La Concha, Ondarreta and Zurriola beaches, as well as to Hondarribia. Shorter trips to Getaria cost €9, and popular surf spots such as Zarautz are also reachable. French Atlantic beaches, including Biarritz (€12), Saint‑Jean‑de‑Luz (€17‑25) and Hendaye, draw many Navarrese visitors seeking a quick seaside escape.

In the province of A Coruña, the village of Vilacoba (Abegondo) will host the annual Romaría das Cereixas on July 4‑5. Organisers will give away up to 300 kg of free cherries, alongside pulpo, music performances and a traditional vermú. The centenary celebration features a large open‑air dance, a local DJ, and historic sites such as the 17th‑century Pazo de Vilacoba, the nearby River Mero and the Roman‑era Bridge of Beldoña, offering visitors both culinary and cultural attractions.
