Northern Taiwan advances major MRT and urban development projects

Major infrastructure developments are advancing in northern Taiwan, with Keelung and New Taipei City reporting significant progress in their respective rapid transit networks.

In Keelung, the city government is coordinating the Keelung MRT project through a dedicated task force to align engineering construction with urban planning. Preliminary works have surpassed 40% completion, with the SB19 station entrance currently undergoing construction. Additionally, the Keelung Smart Technology Park has entered the city urban planning committee review stage, and urban planning changes for stations SB19 to SB21 are scheduled for public exhibition starting in late September.

In New Taipei City, the Rapid Transit Engineering Bureau marked its tenth anniversary by hosting a seminar to discuss the past decade of construction and future goals. The city has completed four lines, resulting in a 13-fold increase in passenger volume. The long-term goal is to expand the network to 189 kilometers and 182 stations by 2035, creating a transit hub that connects Keelung, Taipei, and Taoyuan.
