Northern Vietnam Forest Peach Harvest Drives Seasonal Market Surge

The forest peach (mơ rừng) season in Vietnam's northern highlands runs from April to early June, drawing large numbers of consumers to both traditional markets and online platforms. The fruit is harvested in provinces such as Sơn La, Lai Châu, Lào Cai, Cao Bằng and Bắc Kạn, with Mộc Châu and Vân Hồ in Sơn La regarded as the premier growing areas because of their cool, year‑round climate that enhances aroma and essential oil content.

When unripe, the peaches are crisp and sharply sour, popular as a snack with salt, chili or shrimp paste. Ripe fruit becomes softer, sweeter and fragrant, and is used fresh or processed into syrup, jam, wine, dried snacks, pickled versions and as a flavoring for sauces and stews. Early‑season prices for selected green fruit can reach 60,000‑90,000 VND per kilogram, falling to 35,000‑50,000 VND during peak harvest as supply expands. Recognising the commercial potential, many mountain households are expanding cultivation, benefitting from the tree’s hardiness, low pest pressure and long lifespan.
