Northern Vietnam provinces expand social housing and urban development

Northern Vietnamese provinces are expanding housing development programs to address urbanization and the needs of industrial workers.

In Quang Ninh, authorities are adjusting the Housing Development Program through 2030. The province aims to increase housing supply, expand social housing, and eliminate substandard housing. Between 2021 and 2025, average housing area per capita reached 29.78m², exceeding the 2025 target of 29.2m². The adjustment follows new legal frameworks, including the 2023 Housing Law and 2024 Land Law.

In Bac Ninh, the province has set a target to develop approximately 135,000 social housing units during the 2025–2030 period. Currently, the region is implementing 76 urban area projects alongside 65 social and commercial housing projects. A new social housing project in Bac Ninh City, involving a 19-story apartment building with approximately 500 units and an investment of over 800 billion VND, recently commenced construction to support low-income workers and industrial laborers.
