Northfield police officer charged with official misconduct

Malachi Valentine, a 25-year-old officer with the Northfield Police Department, has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses following an investigation into unauthorized database access.

According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Valentine allegedly utilized the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database outside the scope of his employment on multiple occasions since joining the department in 2023. The NCIC is a real-time law enforcement database managed by the FBI.

Valentine faces several charges, including second-degree official misconduct, second-degree pattern of official misconduct, third-degree computer criminal activity, and petty disorderly persons harassment. Prosecutors have not yet disclosed what specific information was accessed or the motive behind the unauthorized use of the database.
