Northridge shooting kills two at strip mall party
A shooting at a private party in a Northridge strip mall left at least two people dead on Friday night. The incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. at the Artist Lounge, located within University Plaza on the 18000 block of Nordhoff Street, less than a mile from California State University, Northridge.
The Los Angeles Police Department identified the victims as a man and a woman, both estimated to be between 18 and 25 years old. While authorities investigated reports of a possible third victim, no additional bodies were located by Saturday morning.
Responding officers encountered a large crowd and heard gunfire upon arrival. More than 100 attendees, many of whom appeared to be minors, were evacuated from the building. Dozens of individuals were briefly detained in zip ties for questioning before being released to their parents. As of Saturday, no suspects have been arrested, and the motive remains unknown. Detectives are currently reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses to identify the shooter.
