Northrop Grumman and Aeronix partner on space cryptography

Northrop Grumman and Aeronix, Inc. have entered into a multimillion-dollar strategic joint investment agreement to develop next-generation space-based cryptographic systems. The partnership aims to engineer hardened, reprogrammable encryption platforms designed to secure classified data across low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks.

The collaboration focuses on increasing cryptographic processing throughput and transmission speeds by five times compared to legacy systems. This development will support high-bandwidth optical and radio frequency satellite links, protecting data at rest, in transit, and in use aboard defense platforms.

This initiative builds upon previous collaborative efforts between the two companies, including the development of a Space End Crypto Unit (ECU) prototype for the U.S. Space Force. The new program will utilize modular, open architecture designs to ensure scalability and rapid adaptation to emerging threats in multi-domain environments.
