Northrop Grumman develops Project Talon autonomous combat architecture
Northrop Grumman is developing Project Talon, an autonomous combat architecture designed to integrate software, flight testing, and modular unmanned aircraft. The initiative includes the Talon IQ, used for testing autonomy technologies, and the YFQ-48A Talon Blue, which is intended to serve as an autonomous support aircraft operating alongside manned platforms.
The project aims to accelerate the development cycle by allowing mission capabilities and software to be evaluated and improved before operational deployment. Following an initial phase in the Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) competition, Northrop Grumman shifted its focus toward a lighter, less complex aircraft designed for faster production and flexible configurations to meet evolving U.S. Air Force requirements.
