Northrop Grumman selected for US Space Force RRS-G radar program

The US Space Force has announced the Resilient Radar System-Ground (RRS-G) program, naming Northrop Grumman as the prime contractor. The program aims to transition from aerial target tracking to space-based reconnaissance using a satellite constellation designed to detect and track ground-moving targets (GMTI) from orbit. Launch preparations for the constellation are expected to begin within the next two years, with a target operational date of 2028.

Separately, Northrop Grumman has delivered over 40 AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task-Oriented Radar (G/ATOR) systems to the US Marine Corps and US Air Force. The company is scheduled to supply a total of 60 G/ATOR units by 2029. The G/ATOR is a mobile, active electronically scanned array radar capable of providing 360-degree coverage to detect and track airborne threats, including uncrewed aircraft, while supporting air defense and fire-control tasks simultaneously.
