Bluetongue virus confirmed in Northumberland livestock
The first confirmed case of the bluetongue virus (BTV-3) has been identified in livestock in Northumberland, specifically near Allendale. This marks the first detection in the county since the virus was first identified in Great Britain in 2023.
According to the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), there are currently over 2,000 potential cases under investigation across the UK.
