Northwest Territories immigration nominee program restored to 300 slots

The federal government has reinstated the Northwest Territories’ immigration nominee program allocation to 300 spots for 2026, matching the territory’s 2024‑2025 caps. The GNWT said the increase reflects successful advocacy to ensure the territory’s labour‑market needs are reflected in the allocation numbers.

The additional spots will be filled through an expression‑of‑interest draw scheduled for August 26, with applications due by August 24. The GNWT will hold virtual information sessions on August 18 and August 20 to guide employers and prospective immigrants. The program, which includes employer‑driven, business and Francophone streams, helps foreign workers obtain permanent residency and assists NWT employers in filling vacancies when no qualified local workers are available.

Earlier in the year the territory introduced a points‑based system to rank candidates, aiming for a clearer and fairer intake process. The allocation is part of the broader provincial and territorial nominee programs managed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
