Northwestern University reopens reconstructed Ryan Field

Northwestern University is reopening its reconstructed Ryan Field in Evanston following more than two years of construction. The rebuilt stadium is approximately 320,000 square feet larger than the previous facility, though seating capacity has been reduced to improve sight lines and bring spectators closer to the field.

Key features of the new venue include 200,000 square feet of festival grounds, premium seating, enhanced accessibility with nearly double the ADA-required seating, and a 2,000-student safe-standing section called the ‘Wildcat Wall’. The project also served as a workforce development initiative, providing paid carpentry apprenticeships for Evanston Township High School graduates.

Northwestern is scheduled to play its first home football game at the new stadium on October 10 against Ball State. The venue will also host community events, such as the annual football rivalry game between Evanston Township High School and New Trier High School on October 16.
