Norway air traffic controllers strike following failed mediation FAST-MOVING

Air traffic controllers in Norway have initiated a strike following a breakdown in mediation between the Norsk Flygelederforening and the employer association Spekter. The dispute centers on issues including work hours, breaks, instructor activity frameworks, and life-phase policies, rather than purely economic concerns.

Initially, twelve controllers at Oslo Airport (Gardermoen) and Bergen Airport (Flesland) are participating in the strike. However, the association has filed for resignation for 536 members, suggesting the industrial action could expand significantly.

Avinor has warned of substantial disruptions to flight traffic across Norway. Expected consequences include significant delays and cancellations at Flesland and Gardermoen through the weekend. Notably, Gardermoen is expected to be closed to traffic from 06:30 to 11:30 on Sunday. The government maintains the authority to intervene with mandatory arbitration if the strike poses a threat to life, health, or critical societal functions.
