Norway and Finland demand Financial Times correction over Putin call report
Norway and Finland have formally requested that the Financial Times correct a report regarding a recent telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Nordic leaders Jonas Gahr Støre and Alexander Stubb.
The Financial Times reported, citing anonymous sources, that Putin spent much of the 90-minute call discussing medieval Slavic history rather than peace efforts. However, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre refuted this, stating the discussion focused on the European security situation from 2014 to the present and the necessity of de-escalation.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb also characterized the dialogue as direct and substantive, centered on the war in Ukraine and potential negotiations. Despite the demands for rectification from both Nordic nations, the Financial Times has declined to amend the article, stating that it stands by its journalism.
The Kremlin has supported the Nordic leaders' indignation, labeling the publication as containing invented information.
