Norway and Poland propose stricter immigration policies

Political leaders in Norway and Poland are proposing stricter immigration frameworks to curb illegal migration and promote assimilation.

In Norway, the Progress Party is advocating for tighter border controls and a policy designed to dismantle human smugglers' business models. The party warns that amnesty programs, such as the one recently implemented in Spain, create a ‘pull effect’ that encourages illegal entry. This concern is echoed by EU officials and Swedish leadership, who argue that regularizing undocumented residents sends the wrong signal to migrants.

In Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki, leader of the newly formed Demokrati Plus party, has introduced a program emphasizing legal compliance and cultural assimilation. The proposal includes requirements for immigrants to learn the Polish language and respect local culture. Morawiecki also suggested the creation of a specialized immigration unit to track legal status and employment, alongside a uniformed deportation service to increase visible security.
