Norway aviation strike looms as mediation begins

Mediation has begun between NHO Luftfart and labor organizations, including HK Norge, Parat, and Handel og Kontor, to resolve disputes regarding the aviation collective agreement. If an agreement is not reached by midnight on August 12, a strike is scheduled to commence at the start of working hours on Thursday, August 13.

The potential strike involves nearly 2,000 ground staff members at various Norwegian airports. If implemented, the industrial action could impact major airlines including SAS, Norwegian, and Widerøe. Key points of contention in the negotiations include wages, compensation for inconvenient working hours, competency valuation, and the reduction of wage disparities.

Negotiation leaders from Handel og Kontor and Parat have indicated that significant gaps remain regarding total compensation and purchasing power. While a previous strike by SAS cabin crew was averted through agreement, this potential ground staff strike threatens to disrupt airport operations, including check-in, boarding, and flight schedules.
