Norway braces for possible air traffic controller strike in August

The Norwegian Air Traffic Controllers' Association warns that up to 536 air traffic controllers could go on strike in August if mediation with employer group Spekter fails. Negotiations are scheduled with the state mediator on 19‑20 August. The union says the dispute centres on issues such as break times, instructor‑activity rules and life‑stage policy for controllers.

Separate wage negotiations covering about 1,800 airport ground‑staff employees – including 1,286 staff from Handel og Kontor and 578 members from Parat – will also be mediated on 11‑12 August. If the talks break down, both the controller and ground‑staff strikes could disrupt flight operations, cause airport chaos and affect thousands of passengers across Norway.
