Norway cabin water damage claims rise by over 40 percent

Water damage claims for Norwegian cabins have increased by over 40 percent in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year, according to industry statistics from Finans Norge.

Nearly 5,000 water damage incidents were recorded in Norwegian cabins during the first half of the year. Christer Kjørsvik, communication manager at Tryg Forsikring, noted that these incidents are highly weather-dependent, citing factors such as heavy rain, lightning, and frost damage from burst pipes during long, cold winters.

To mitigate risks, insurance experts recommend that cabin owners take simple preventative measures before winter, such as shutting off the main water valve, draining pipes, clearing gutters of debris, and ensuring outdoor drains remain open to manage meltwater.
