Norway child welfare institutions linked to criminal networks
A report from the A-krimsenteret in Tønsberg has revealed that criminal networks have infiltrated private child welfare institutions in Norway. The findings indicate that 16 private enterprises within the South-East police district, covering Buskerud, Vestfold, and Telemark, have links to criminal environments.
The report highlights that criminal actors have successfully won public tenders to provide child welfare services to the state. Furthermore, several employees in these institutions have histories of serious or repeated criminal activity. The report notes that current systems for checking police certificates have failed to adequately capture these criminal backgrounds.
In response, the political party Rødt has demanded that the report be made public and that Minister of Children and Families Lene Vågslid appear before the Storting to provide an explanation. Other parties, including SV, Frp, and MDG, have also expressed sharp criticism and requested formal answers from the government.
As a direct consequence, two departments of the child welfare institution BevisstUng Bolig AS have already lost their official approval following reports of staff members with serious criminal convictions.
