Norway Christmas retail sales projected to grow in Vestland
The NHO Service and Handel Christmas shopping forecast predicts a growth in retail turnover for the Vestland region. Total Norwegian spending during November and December is expected to reach 150 billion NOK. In Vestland, sales are projected to increase by approximately 3.6 percent, representing an additional 600 million NOK compared to the previous year.
Growth is attributed to increased purchasing power driven by real wage growth and low unemployment. However, rising interest rates and electricity prices are expected to temper the pace of growth compared to previous years. The expansion is also influenced by early promotional campaigns like Black Week and the prevalence of online shopping.
In Vestland, Bergen accounts for more than half of the regional Christmas trade. The NHO has urged consumers to shop locally to support community jobs and tax revenues, noting that local retailers face significant competition from foreign websites.
