Norway considers removing electric vehicle toll discounts

The Norwegian government is considering a proposal that could allow the Nord-Jæren region to increase toll rates for electric vehicles, potentially removing the current environmental discount. Currently, national guidelines limit electric vehicle tolls to a maximum of 70 percent of the standard rate for light vehicles.

A survey conducted by Opinion for the Norwegian EV Association indicates that 54 percent of respondents support maintaining the environmental discount. The association argues that financial incentives remain crucial to making electric vehicles an attractive choice. Conversely, opponents of specific discounts suggest that all vehicles contribute to traffic and road wear, and therefore should pay similar rates.
