Norway develops record-breaking underwater and pedestrian tunnels

Norway is advancing major infrastructure projects designed to transform regional transport. In the Rogaland region, construction is underway for the Rogfast tunnel, a massive €1.9 billion project under the Boknafjord. This 27-kilometer underwater road tunnel is set to become the longest and deepest of its kind in the world, reaching depths of nearly 400 meters below sea level.

In Bergen, the Fyllingsdalstunnelen has been highlighted as a significant piece of non-automotive infrastructure. Spanning approximately 2,900 meters through the Løvstakken mountain, it is recognized as the world’s longest tunnel dedicated to cyclists and pedestrians. The six-meter-wide facility features separate lanes for cyclists and walkers, integrated art installations, and calming lighting to enhance the user experience.
